Early Life
In 1956, Alan Wong was born of a Japanese mother and Half-Hawaiian father, who was also a chef. They lived in a military base in Japan until he was five when they moved to Hawaii. Wong began his career when he was only fifteen when he worked at a pineapple plantation.
Alan Wong attained his education at the Kapi’olani Community College Culinary Arts Program in Honolulu. He went to further his studies at Greenbrier Hostel in West Virginia before getting into Lute’ce in New York under Chef Andre Sloner, where he worked for three years, which at the time was one of the best restaurants in the city. To date, Chef Alan Wong accredited his excellent skills in gourmet cooking to Chef Andres, stating that he was the one who mentored him to the man he is today.
