Early Life
Salt Bae was born in Erzurum, Turkey, on 9th august 1983 to a Kurdish family. His father was a mineworker and raised Salt alongside five other children in Darica, a coastal town. The family wasn’t doing well financially, which forced Salt Bae to drop out of school in the sixth grade and look for survival means. He was hired as a butcher’s apprentice in Kadikoy, Istanbul district, at the age of fourteen. He was a dishwasher in the local restaurant as it was the closest he could be engaged in his love for preparing food that surfaced at his tender age. During this time, Salt Bae often traveled while studying his craft, including bouts in New York and Argentina. He worked extra hard to acquire the needful knowledge in his future career. Between 2007 and 2010, Salt Bae visited different countries, including Qatar and Argentina, and worked in local restaurants for free to gain experience and become a better restaurateur and cook. When he went back to his hometown, Turkey, Salt Bae opened his first restaurant in 2010, and later in 2014, he opened its branch in Dubai.
Salt Bae never backed down from fulfilling his dream of owning his restaurant, and at the age of 27, he managed to achieve his goal even though his first restaurant was small with eight tables and ten employees.
