Early life
Soulja Boy was born in Chicago, Illinois to Tracy and Lisa Way, on July 28, 1990. He grew up in Chicago until he was six when he and his family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. While growing up in Georgia, Soulja developed a passion for music. He moved to Mississippi at age 14 alongside his father, who supported his musical dream by building him a home recording studio.
The rapper went to South Panola High School in Batesville, Mississippi. He was a straight-A student but his passion for music came between him and his education. In addition to financial instability and differences between his parents, he slowly drifted away from school. Another rapper, Young Kwon, helped him elevate his music skills and taught him how to make beats.
He later moved to another part of Mississippi with his father, leaving Kwon behind. He got together with rapper Arab and together they formed the 30/30 Boys hip hop band. They hired Miami Mike as their manager, started recording songs and posting them on SoundClick.
The Kiss Me Through The Phone rapper worked hard by recording more songs and posting them on YouTube and his website, Souljaboytellem.com.
