Sherri Shepherd was born in Chicago, Illinois, the United States, on 22nd April 1967. Her father was Lawrence A. Shepherd, who worked at Sambos Restaurant as a food service manager and church deacon, and his mother was LaVerne, a home cleaner and sadly died in 1991.  Sherri was the firstborn in a family of three girls. When Sherri was eleven years old, his family relocated to the suburb Hoffman Estates.

Sherri Shepherd went to Winston Churchill Elementary school and later proceeded to Hoffman Estates High School and Eisenhower Junior High School to further her studies.

Sherri Shepherd started her career in 1990 as a legal secretary in Beverly Hills. She quit her job after a while and got a role in Cleghorne, a short-lived sitcom WB. At the end of the season, without an alternative source of income, Sherri went back to work at the law firm for the next three years.
