Early Life

Molly Yeh was born in Glenview, Illinois in a musical family. Her father, John Bruce Yeh is a clarinetist, and the director of the Chicago-based chamber music group, Chicago Pro Musica. Her mother is Jody Shinbrod Yeh.

Molly’s father is Chinese while her mother is Jewish. The celebrated food blogger has two siblings, Jenna Yeh, a chef and Mia Reilly Yeh, a half-sister.

Molly and her sister were brought up in Glenview, where she attended Glenbrook South High School. Growing up in a musical family, her father ensured she gained as much musical knowledge as possible. She attended Illinois- based Midwest Young Artists Conservatory, where she studied music. At the conservatory, she joined two percussion ensembles, Ratan Trio and Beat 3. Molly and her mates won gold medals for outstanding musical performance.

She later moved to Brooklyn, New York, home to the prestigious music school Juilliard, to pursue her musical degree. At Juilliard, the renowned blogger served as a writer and a junior editor for the Juilliard Journal. It is also at the tertiary institution that she met her spouse, Nick Hagen who was also pursuing a musical degree.

Molly Yeh is a celebrated cookbook author, for her work in Molly On The Range: Recipes and Stories of an Unlikely Life On a Farm. This best-seller won 2017’s Judges Choice for the annual International Associates of Culinary Professionals(IACP) Cookbook Award. Released in 2016, the book also received praise from the New York Times, making the list of the top fall releases of that year.

Yeh has another cookbook in the works, Home is Where The Eggs Are: Farmhouse Food For The People You Love Most, scheduled for release in the fall,2022.

Yeh started her food career as a food blogger, an idea that was born in 2009 while she was on vacation. She collected her childhood journals and documented stories and recipes from her childhood memories. She did not take blogging seriously and went on with her studies, graduating with a Music Degree in Percussion in 2011.

In 2013, Yeh and her fiance, Norwegian-American son of a sugar beet-farming family, moved to Minnesota.
