Early Life
Bakari Sellers was born and raised in Denmark, Bamberg County, South Carolina, on September 18, 1984. His parents are Gwendolyn Sellers, a businesswoman, and Cleveland Sellers, a professor of African American studies and political rights activist.
His father is a renowned activist who served a jail term after leading the Student Nonviolent Coordination Committee to the Orangeburg Massacre of 1968. Sellers has two siblings, Cleveland L. Sellers III and Nosizwe Sellers.
The outspoken attorney went to Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, a public high school in Orangeburg County. He later went to Morehouse College to pursue a degree in African American studies.
